What is Vastu Shastra?
Vastu Shastra
Have you ever entered a room or a house and felt immediately at home, or have you forced yourself to sit through dinner, when all you wanted to do was to leave. Most people experience such feelings, but shake them off as being silly or irrational. But these instincts are part of our primordial makeup, a gut feeling which is a very important yard scale especially when on the hunt for a flat or house. This feeling in the pit of your stomach is the best sensor of whether you will be happy in the property and whether the energy will work in your favour or against you.
Modern life revolves around home, office, and back home again. The whole day you are surrounded by concrete, noise, sirens and electrical gadgets like your computer, your car or public transport. When you come home in the evening, you need a welcoming environment which encourages you to relax and de-stress and where the energies are conducive to rest, happiness and health.
Modern architects have been trying to balance the inner and outer space of man, but if the energies are not balanced then the unconscious operation of Vastu Shastra cannot start working its magic!
Vastu Shastra originates from written scripts, part of the Stapatya Veda, that come from the Athartha Veda. The Vedas are the oldest writings in India, which teach man to balance spiritual development with material harmony, or make money to make spiritual enhancement easier. Feng Shui is considered to be around 3,000 years old, however, Vastu Shastra’s written history is at least 5,000 years old, with the living proof being the houses constructed in the Indus Seriatim Culture in India, which where discovered in 1921.
Vastu Shastra deals with knowledge of architecture and art relating to structures and buildings. The design and structure of the building along with the placing of different rooms used for different purposes take into account the direction and influences associated with that direction etc which deeply influences the psyche , behaviors, attitudes and personality of the person living in the property. This further influences the day to day affairs of the person including their physical, mental and emotional health and their social and professional relationships.
Vastu Shastra even takes into account those environmental factors you do not think of at first for example Earth’s magnetic field, the subtle energies from the Earth and Sun, the paths of Sun and Moon as well as gravitation. All these physical and subtle influences define the quality of the room you are living in. You can view the room as a bio-field which interacts with the bio-energetic field of the human body.
This very important interplay of energies are the laws of nature which are taken into account respect when building a house according to Vastu design principles. The Indian scientist A. R. Hari investigated the importance of this and discovered that most chronic diseases are a reflection of the living situation! If the natural laws of energy are violated, the manifestation of chronic diseases seems to be enhanced! Whereas a strong bio- energetic living field strengthens the power of resistance of its inhabitants
